Learning to overcome obstacles is at the center of reaching your fitness goals. They may be smaller obstacles such as arranging the time to prioritize your training to larger obstacles such as emotional reliance upon food and other detrimental habits.
For myself it was very scary the last year to hear that 50% of my spinal cord was being compressed by a disc in my upper neck. This was probably largely due to a combination of bad car accidents and sports injuries from my youth. Either way it was happening and my training was getting progressively worse because of migraines that would occur during my training (and other times of the day) along with progressive weakness I found in my right arm.
Hearing the only solution was to get spinal surgery didn’t make me feel that much better. An odd goal of mine of sorts was to never get any type of surgery, especially spinal! However, with the support of my wife and several good friends, I went with the surgery to hopefully provide myself with some type of normalcy and very honestly, in hopes that I would be able to train like I loved to do so much again!

12 weeks have now gone by and I won’t lie it has not always been the easiest. However, on the good side I do feel better, but am still working to getting strength back in my arm as well as trying to bring back my fitness level that I am more accustomed to having.
In fact, this week was the FIRST week I was allowed to lift overhead. It wasn’t going to be much, but the fact I could do it was going to be very exciting! What is developing from my own obstacles are even more innovative ideas on how to train myself. How do you train hard when you can’t do what everyone tells you are the basics?
More and more I am finding some really unique and awesome benefits to our Ultimate Sandbag™ program because how you can address these different goals and challenges.
